2017: A Year in Review

Twenty-seventeen was truly a wonderful year for MB&COMPANY! The year began in January with the launch of the Art Gallery of Alberta’s 2017 VIBE series, and wrapped up on December 18 as we rolled up the red carpets following the RAAS Holiday Sip + Shop.  With over 35 events, there is definitely cause for celebration and reflection during the final days of this big year.

This year, MB&COMPANY:

  1. Did more events and weddings than any year previous.
  2. Expanded to Calgary as well as the Rocky Mountains.
  3. Had more speaking and media requests than ever before, most on the topic of inclusivity in the wedding industry.
  4. Became a member of NAIT’s advisory council for their Event Management program.
  5. Launched the use of a planning software that clients and vendors have fallen head over heels for.
  6. Redesigned the website.
  7. Made a major structural change to the company.
  8. Worked in four spaces for the first time.

What I am most proud of this year is the work that I have done to address inclusivity in the wedding industry. I have been commenting on some of these issues casually in the past, but in 2017 I decided to roll this into MB&COMPANY’s mission. It began with a journal entry and continued to grow through media appearances, speaking opportunities, private questions from local vendors and finally my proudest accomplishment of the year, our very first community investment program.

I am so thrilled to be partnered with Camp fYrefly and their inspirational team. Donating a portion of wedding services to the tremendous work they do is simply just the surface. Through the generosity of friends, clients and the larger event industry, we were able to provide clothing as well as hair and make-up services (three cheers for Blush Artistry) for their talent show and beyond.

If you are a wedding professional and would like to talk about making your business more inclusive, get in touch. I would be happy to chat over a coffee (or something stronger!). There is so much more work for us to do as a larger community - we need to build a community that pushes each other to do better. MB&COMPANY still has a long way to go in this regard and I'm so grateful for the other local vendors and supporters that are right there beside me.

Thank you to all the clients, vendors and guests who helped make all these successes possible.

Three big cheers to 2017! It wasn’t easy but absolutely worth it. Years like this make me so look forward to the future.

In 2018, MB&COMPANY will turn five years old and I cannot believe it. This little company started out unexpectedly but grew with thoughtful and intentional planning. I can't wait to celebrate this milestone.

Cheers & Happy New Year! XO
